Package Contents

Welcome to this review of the Bear Archery Titan Youth Bow Set. The Titan is recommended for beginning archers 12 years old and older, and makes an excellent starter or intermediate bow until the teenage archer is ready for a more powerful adult bow. Each package delivered by Bear Archery includes the following items:

  • The Bear Archery Titan bow
  • 2 Safetyglass Arrows
  • Armguard
  • Finger tab
  • Quiver
  • Target

Assembling The Bow

Assembling the Bear Titan is pretty simple if you know how to string a bow, because that is all that’s required to put this bow together. It’s always a good idea to use a bow stringer for this task, but Bear Archery does not include one in the package. I strongly recommend buying one, because it makes stringing the bow much safer and easier.

How Powerful and Accurate is the Bow?

With a 20# to 30# draw weight, this bow is not extremely powerful but it is still powerful enough to drive the arrow deep into a foam core target. While Bear Archery does include a paper target with the bow, I suggest buying a compressed foam target block or some sort of foam backstop. If you just hang the paper target up on a fence, you’ll end up damaging your arrows and risk the arrows putting holes in your fence.

Once the bow is tuned and you begin getting used to it, it is highly accurate. I observed a group of Boy Scouts using the Bear Titan, and many of the Scouts were able to maintain 2” groupings from 25 yards. In my own testing, I maintained 2” groupings from 40 yards and 3” groupings from 50 yards.

Is The Bow Suitable For Hunting?

Due to its light draw weight, this bow is not legal archery equipment for medium- to large-sized game in most, if not all, states. In the hands of a skilled archer, though, this bow is powerful enough and accurate enough for small game hunting.

On a recent hunting trip for small game, I tried out the Bear Titan for squirrel using blunt-head arrowheads. I was able to successfully fill my bag limit using the Titan.

Is The Bow Suitable For Beginners?

This bow is designed for young archers, ages 12 and up. As such, it is great as a beginner’s bow, if they are strong enough to draw it. The brace height is very forgiving of bad stance and technique, and the bow is sturdy enough to withstand quite a bit of abuse.

Does This Recurve Accept Accessories?

Because this is a beginner’s bow, it does not accept any accessories. It might be possible to drill and tap the holes required for a sight, stabilizer, or Berger button, but I would not recommend doing so. It could damage the structural integrity of the bow, and the bow simply isn’t advanced enough to require such accessories.

Arrows For The Bear Archery Titan

Bear Archery ships this bow with 2 28” Safetyglass arrows. These arrows are decent enough, except for the plastic vanes. The plastic vanes have a tendency to fall off easily. I recommend refletching the arrows with feathers for better flight characteristics.

If you wish to purchase additional arrows, I recommend 28” or 30” Carbon Express arrows. These will be more durable than aluminum arrows, and will work very well for either target shooting or small game hunting.

Is This Bow Comfortable To Hold?

The Bear Titan has a comfortable grip and is lightweight. It’s pretty comfortable to hold, and I didn’t have any weariness or fatigue after shooting it for several hours. The Boy Scouts and other outdoors-oriented youth groups use the Bear Titan quite frequently, and their members rarely, if ever, report any difficulties or discomfort from holding and shooting the bow for long periods.

Materials And Durability (Riser, Limbs)

At 60” overall length, this bow is almost an adult-sized bow. It’s made of composite limbs with a plastic and rubber-gripped riser. The materials used are quite sturdy, and the bow stands up to a good deal of abuse at the hands of rough-and-tumble 12-year-olds.

The bow is designed to be ambidextrous, so youth who are either right-handed or left-handed will all find the bow easy and comfortable to hold.

The bow has a draw length of 22” to 28”, and a draw weight of 20# to 30#.

The only weak point in the Titan is the string, which is a very inexpensive polyester string. The string will last for at least a couple of hundred shots if the bow is treated well.

What String Fits The Bear Archery Titan?

The limb tips on the Bear Titan are not reinforced, so you cannot use Flemish twist strings or Fastflight strings with this bow. Any Dacron bowstring will work very well with this bow, though.

Is The Bear Archery Titan a Heavy Bow?

Weighing in at less than a pound, this is a very light bow, indeed. The light weight does not impact the sturdiness of the bow, though. I’m certain that I overdrew the bow on several occasions without any harm to the bow.

How Loud Is The Bear Archery Titan?

Usually, I leave this section out for youth recurve reviews, but because this bow has some usefulness in small game hunting I will say this. The bow is rather loud for its size, because little has been done to alleviate the noise of the string slapping the bow when the arrow is released. Whisker string silencers do quite a bit of good in lessening the noise, as does applying felt to the limbs just beneath where the string will hit.

Review Summary

Thanks for reading our review of the Bear Archery Titan. This is a very decent youth bow, and will serve any 12-year-old or older for several years as they learn the skill of archery. It’s definitely a good starting point for a teenage archer before moving up to a more powerful adult bow.
